I have been meaning to write-up a number of how to’s for Google+ for a long time now, especially since I was a Google+ speaker at Blog On conference early on this year.I’ve been using Google+ since it was in beta mode back in July 2011, I know how to use it, I get it and most of I like it.But I know not everyone agrees with me, so I plan to try to help you with some common mistakes that people make when using Google+, today I’m going to show you how to Publicise Your WordPress Posts To Google+ Publicly.
WordPress has a nifty little publicise feature which allows you to choose which social media networks you can share your new blog post links to automatically.Go to your WordPress dashboard you’ll see in the left hand sidebar a number of options. You need to look for SETTINGS. Click on SETTINGS and you’ll see a drop down menu appear.Click SHARING.
You’ll then be taken to your publicise page where you connect to different social networks in order to share your blog post links.I have my Google+ setting connected to my Google+ page. If you have been unknowingly posting privately or you’re not sure who you are posting to, disconnect your account by clicking on the X.
Once you have disconnected your account or if you haven’t connected a Google+ account before you’ll see the image below.Click CONNECT.
Next you’ll be taken to a page where you select which Google+ profile/page you want to share the links to your WordPress posts to.I publicise to my Google+page Bug, Bird And Bee.
You’ll be taken to a permissions acceptance page. This is the IMPORTANT part where you a) decide what permissions you are allowing the app to do and what Google have to access and b) how your posts are shared on Google+.
First you need to deal with the permissions Know your basic profile info and list of people in your circles. Click on the pencil.
If you have given permissions before you’ll see some, if not all the boxes checked. If not then all boxes will be unchecked.
I would advise you to click LEARN MORE to read what you are giving permissions for.
Now that permission has been selected, you now need to click on the pencil on make your creative activity available via Google, visible to:
You’ll see this below. This is IMPORTANT, DO NOT SELECT ANYTHING BUT PUBLIC.If you select to post to certain circles, you are in effect spamming people.Selecting PUBLIC ensures the whole of Google+ will see your post (whether they have you in their circles or not), it will appear on Google search engine and other Google+ users will be able to reshare you post.
Click done. The last permission is manage your Google+ posts, comments, and stream.
Which will bring up this.Click ok.
Now click accept.
The image below will appear and you’re done.
I hope this has been useful and If Publicise Your WordPress Posts To Google+ Publicly has been useful please reshare my post on Google+.
