We recently received a beautiful hardback and cloth bound book Dog On Stilts by James Thorp and Angus Mackinnon.Signed by James himself (my phone is away being fixed, so the photos used are from the authors).
I am one of those die-hard ‘real book’ fans, not one for apps or e-readers, this truly has an evocative new book smell. You can’t get that with an electronic book.Nor can you appreciate the exquisite and bold illustrations that are a delight throughout the entire book.I had to flick through the pages first to inhale the aroma and I smiled as the pictures gave me a glimpse of the story to come.
So what is Dog On Stilts about? Well it’s about Medium Dog, who thinks he’s basically a boring canine and sets off to improve himself by making a pair of stilts. He loves exploring the world from on high, discovering what he never seen before when he just had his nose to the ground.
Medium Dog adventures soon come to an end when he goes in search of food, not easy when you’re a Dog On Stilts.Even with the help of friends, Medium Dog doesn’t quite make it when reaching for an apple.Medium Dog’s friends are there to help him realise he’s just fine as he is.
Me and my youngest, Mouse who’s 6, loved it.She beamed all the way through, excitingly waiting for me to turn the pages. She also had a go at reading some of the story herself, a big thing now as she recently completed the reading recovery program she’s being doing since the beginning of the year.
Dog On Stilts retails at £10.99, well worth the price.
We were sent one copy of Dog On Stilts by James Thorp and Angus Mackinnon for purposes of an honest review.
