Coombe Mill Farm
Saturday 26th October
We are currently at Coombe Mill Farm enjoying our first family holiday together. My mum said she wanted to pay, so I’m very grateful. When she asked where we would like to go, I said Coombe Mill in Cornwall straight off.Do you remember your first childhood family holiday? Mine was to a caravan park in Westward Ho, Devon when I was 7 years old.Holidays were always based in Devon, Cornwall or Wales back then.Having read Fiona of Coombe Mill’s blog and met her in person, I’ve always wanted to go there as it looked so idyllic and every parent blogger I know who has been has raved about it.
Now neither my mum or me drive, so the journey down to Cornwall was a 3 hour train journey from Chippenham, Wiltshire to Bodmin Parkway. We had reserved tickets and used our family railcard to save a third off our fare.As seasoned train users, the journey wasn’t any different to the frequent trips to London. We played top trumps, coloured in, used the internet and the kids had their DS’s.
We arrived just before 1 pm at Coombe Mill Farm after a 25 minute ride via a taxi, which my mum had booked ahead of time and this cost £30.As we were early, we mooched around the children’s play area for 45 minutes in the drizzle.By the time we had settled into our home for a week. The autumnal sun came out and the kids were off to explore the farm. After me and my mum unpacked and received our Tesco home delivery, we chilled out for the rest of the evening.
After the 2 hour animal feed run, we headed back to our cottage for brunch and to chill before heading off to St.Breward by foot. The walk included a very steep hill, not suitable for those with pushchairs or very young children. After taking two wrong turns, our 4 mile walk ended at The Old Inn and restaurant, where the kids played darts before having cream teas. The way back was fortunately much quicker with spectacular views and Hobbit like woodland walk, despite the steep hill it was well worth the trek.
We visited the Eden Project yesterday, with plans to visit Newquay Wednesday and St.Michael’s Mount Thursday. The days in between we will enjoy the farm activities. We’re staying at Coombe Mill Farm until Saturday 31st.
