Way back at the beginning of the year, when The Boy And Me shared a photo on Instagram of her sea blanket.I mentioned about doing a Sky Blanket for next year after seeing a few on Pinterest one evening.Fast forward to last week, when You Little Sew And Sew asked if me and The Boy And Me were still planning to do one. After toing and froing of a long conversation on Twitter, we decided we’d get other people involved in The Sky Blanket 2016 Craft Project. In just two days we have a Facebook page set up with over 130 fans and a Facebook group of 29 people, full of sharing ideas on how they plan to do theirs.
What is a sky blanket?
Ok, so let’s back track and explain a bit more.So whether you’re a crocheter, knitter or quilter, the sky blanket involves you doing just one row a day, over a year to make a blanket or if you wish a scarf. The majority of the ones I have seen are mainly blue, white and grey but we have suggested on getting more creative by using pinks, reds, yellows and even purple and black to incorporate sunrises and sunsets. You can do straight rows, ripples, different stitches or squares if you wish.I like the idea of adding embellishments like clouds, rainbows, suns and even felt with embroidery to mark birthdays and anniversaries.
What do you need?
Decide on what medium/s you are going to use and spend the next 6 weeks collecting it all together.Go through your yarn and fabric stash, trawl charity shops or even ask friends for yarn that represents sky colours.
How do I join in and meet others?
Become a fan of the Facebook page. We’ll update it daily with ideas, prompts and get you to post yours too.Join the Facebook group, lots of world wide crafters are sharing ideas already.
